“Familiar Voices”
An early chapter in the book covers the period April 1936 to July 1939 when the author spent some of his spare time playing soldiers in the local company of the Territorial Army at Stamford, Lincolnshire.
In July 1939 he was accepted into the RAF on a regular engagement to train as an Air Observer, remaining in the RAF until December 1947.
Some of the activities of the TA in those halcyon days of the late 1930’s are remembered, followed by the grim days of flying the Blenheim bombers of No.2 Group, Bomber Command, in the UK and Malta in 1940 and 1941.
December 1941 saw the entry of a new enemy, Japan, into the war and a shift of location to India and Burma, returning to a changed world after the atomic bombs.
The book will appeal to veterans of the Second World War, social historians, RAF enthusiasts and anyone who wants an insight into some of our yesterdays.
